US civil society organisation, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is calling on US citizens to write to their representatives in Congress to support a bill that would mandate transparency in US trade deals.
The bill, which has been introduced by Congresswoman Debbie Dingwell, would require:
- release of the proposed text of trade agreements before and after each round of negotiations;
- the appointment of an independent Transparency Officer to advocate for transparency in U.S. trade negotiations.
Citizens in the US and the UK deserve transparency and democratic oversight in forthcoming trade negotiations. The EFF, Dingwell and her co-sponsors are to be congratulated.
If you live in the US, please ask your Representative to support the Bill.
If you live in the UK, you can demand that our Government delivers trade transparency here.
